Chelsea takes 6th place after win over Bournemouth
Chelsea had a crazy season. For a very long time they were fighting to get into the top half of the table. They’ve been in tenth place for quite some time and looked to be the laughingstock amongst the big 6 clubs. But in 2024 they turned things around and slowly collected more and more points. Suddenly, they were in sixth place, which is valid for European football. Currently it will be a ticket for the Conference League, but if Man City wins the FA Cup, sixth will be a ticket for the Europa League.
Caceido with a worldie
Moises Caicedo was one of Chelsea’s most expensive signings at the beginning of this season. Just like the rest of his team, he really struggled to make an impact on the team. In the final match of this season he made a huge impact. After a mistake in Bournemouth’s defense, Caceido took a long range shot to open the score for Chelsea. This was the only goal of the first half, giving Chelsea a close lead at half-time.
Goals in quick succession
Chelsea came flying out of the locker room with a quick second half goal by Raheem Sterling. Unfortunately for the Blues, it was Badiashile with an own goal one minute after the 2-0. With a 2-1 score, Chelsea tried to double the lead again, but Bournemouth was steady in defense. Attacking wise Bournemouth couldn’t force much more, so they failed to get the equalizer. The 2-1 score remained on the board, leading to a sixth-place finish for Chelsea. This position is currently worthy of a Conference League ticket. Chelsea fans will be supporting Manchester City in the FA Cup final next weekend, a win by the blue side of Manchester upgrades their 6th place to a Europa League ticket.
