The Autumn Internationals, also known as the end-of-year rugby union internationals, are an annual series of international rugby union matches, which will now include the concluding games of the newly-launched Nations Championship, which is in its maiden campaign in 2026.

The matches in autumn are predominantly played between Southern Hemisphere rivals like Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa and European heavyweights like England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales.

What is the Nations Championship?

The launch of the biennial Nations Championship represents a major shift in how the international rugby calendar works. For years, established and much-loved competitions like the Guinness Six Nations, Summer Tours, Autumn Internationals have dominated the sport's landscape, however, the Nations Championship aims to trump those traditional tournaments.

The aim is to create a unified structure that involves the best teams from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres into a single competitive entity, creating a more competitive global rugby ecosystem, which will include more high-stakes matches and a great variety of opponents.

For match-going fans, that means there will be more top-class rugby matches to attend each year and you'll be able to source and purchase tickets for those games from the resellers on the LiveRugbyTickets platform.

Expect the Nations Championship to deliver high-calibre rugby at world-class stadiums, nail-biting tournament tension and a welcome, fresh update to the usual Autumn Internationals format.

How the new Nations Championship Works

The inaugural Nations Championship introduces a format where every game is important and every point counts. 12 teams, from Northern & Southern Hemispheres, are split into two pools of six.

Northern Hemisphere Pool

  • England

  • France

  • Ireland

  • Italy

  • Scotland

  • Wales

Southern Hemisphere Pool

  • Argentina

  • Australia

  • New Zealand

  • South Africa

  • Japan

  • Fiji

The competition is set to run every two years, and will skip seasons where there is a Rugby World Cup or British & Irish Lions Tour already scheduled.

Each team plays all six sides in the opposite pool, both home and away, in a traditional league style, and points are awarded for wins and draws, with bonus points possible for the nations that post big scores.

These unmissable matches will be contested at some of rugby union's most iconic venues in Europe like Twickenham Stadium, Stade de France, Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Principality Stadium, Aviva Stadium and Murrayfield. You'll be able to secure your place in the crowd by buying your Nations Championship tickets from our resellers at LiveRugbyTickets.

After that initial pool stage, all 12 teams move on to the climactic Finals Weekend. In that phase, teams face the nation that finished in the same position in the opposite pool (e.g. 3^rd^ in Northern Hemisphere vs 3^rd^ in Southern Hemisphere etc.).

The showpiece event is the Grand Final at Twickenham between the first-placed teams from both hemispheres, which will take place at the end of Finals Weekend in London on the 27^th^-29^th^ November.

You'll be able to buy Nations Championship tickets and for any of the 2026 fixtures securely online through our secure booking system.
