Rugby League World Cup: USA 32-20 Cook Islands
USA capped their first Rugby League World Cup fixture with an impressive display to beat the Cook Islands 32-20 in Bristol on Wednesday.
Former Castleford coach Terry Matterson's Tomahawks side ran in six tries at a wet and blustery Memorial Stadium in Bristol.
Mark Offerdahl and Craig Priestly went over in the final eight minutes of a close encounter to seal victory.
Priestly and kicker Joseph Paulo, who kicked four goals, proved key figures.
With the game finally poised at 20-20 in the 62nd minute, the USA ran in two unanswered tries through Mark Offerdahl and Craig Preistly to secure the win.
Paulo sealed his man-of-the-match performance with a penalty three minutes from the hooter as USA went top of Group D.
The U.S. next plays Wales on Monday, followed by Scotland, which upset Tonga on Wednesday.
